In Salesforce, the workflow is fundamentally a business logic engine or repository that automates some actions according to particular criteria. If the criteria are satisfied, then that tasks get implemented. When it is not satisfied, records are saved yet no task gets executed.

In Salesforce, workflow rules can be divided into two components.
Criteria: Criteria are nothing but constraints or conditions that are used to test a record. For example, In the C programming language, we will see conditional statements like If, If-else, Nested If-else, etc.
Actions: Actions will take place if the record satisfies the constraints. Action performs the same thing that the “then” performs in the “If/then” statement.
In Salesforce, two kinds of actions are available in the workflow they are:
Workflow rules make the workflow actions get executed when a particular record satisfies the given conditions. Some workflow actions are implemented immediately, and some are implemented in a certain period. Actions Implemented through a workflow rule are as follows:
A workflow action is like a field update, Email Alert, task launched when the constraints of a particular workflow rule are satisfied.
